The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia Nicolas Schermers presented his credentials to President Armen Sarkissian.

“I am glad to be the first resident Dutch Ambassador to Armenia,” Nicolas Schermers said and conveyed to the President and people of Armenia greetings and good wishes from the King of Netherlands Willem-Alexander. The newly appointed Ambassador said that he was looking forward to a fruitful and efficient work aimed at developing and expanding the bilateral cooperation.

President Armen Sarkissian congratulated the Ambassador on assuming his duties in our country and expressed confidence that during his tenure in office he would work toward strengthening the Armenian-Dutch cooperation.

Among his primary goals the Ambassador noted the deepening of the trade and economic relations between the two countries and underscored the interest of various Dutch companies in doing business in Armenia.

The parties exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation in different areas. President Sarkissian spoke in particular about ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) presidential initiative and noted that in the framework of this project, which is aimed at the development of science and modern technologies in Armenia, great attention will be paid to artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, digital data management, and some other areas.

Noting that preliminary agreement on cooperation has already been reached with a number of leading global technological companies, as well as with prominent universities and research centers, President Sarkissian said that he would be glad to cooperate also with the companies, universities and scientific centers of the Netherlands.
