President Sarkissian was present at the Poghossian Award ceremony: this award has done splendid work in showing appreciation to artists, scientists, intellectuals
The President of Armenia, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Armen Sarkissian today at the big hall of the Presidential Palace was present at the Poghossian Award ceremony.
At the initiative of the Poghossian Foundation this award was created to appreciate distinct activities in the areas of developing education, science, and culture in Armenia.
The annual award ceremony is organized and recapped by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.
At the today’s ceremony, the co-founder of the Robert Poghossian and Sons Foundation, benefactor from Diaspora Jean Poghossian handed the awards to the prominent persons who demonstrated distinction in the areas of healthcare, natural sciences, physics, literature, technical sciences and information technologies, humanities, visual arts, and classical music. He congratulated the awardees and underscored that he came here to appreciate the work of those who through their diligent work, dedication, and dreams promote the Fatherland’s advancement.
At the conclusion of the award ceremony, President Armen Sarkissian addressed the participants of the ceremony and said that it was important to show appreciation for the input of the scientists, workers of arts and culture. “This beautiful award, which used to be called Presidential and now is the Poghossian Award, has been awarded for 19 year in a row which means it has a history and has encouraged many scholars, workers of arts and culture to continue to work in different areas regardless of the situation they are in – good or bad, on the rise or surrounded by difficulties. Thus, with regard to showing appreciation this award has done splendid work.” The President underscored that one of the greatest merits of our nation is the ability to be creative, and this award is aimed at encouraging creative individuals. “Being creative is one of the attributes of being Armenian. I meet creative people every day, and they are creative not only in science, arts, painting or music but also in crafts and high arts,” the President said. “Hence, I believe this award has played an important role in encouraging and appreciating the years-long activities of our scientists, artists, art workers, authors and certainly has been an encouragement for the young scientists, art workers, and students. It is critical that each artist, scientist and intellectual knows that they are in the center of their nation’s attention. In fact, this award shows the attitude of the people and their respect. Thus, I wish all awardees of this year to continue their scientific and cultural activities, while the young awardees ought to understand that today they are living not only in the Armenian world but at the world at large. They have a road to pass to conquer that world, and should always remember that the Fatherland is standing by them.”
The President of Armenia thanked the Poghossian Foundation in the person of its co-founder Jean Poghossian for the considerable contribution they have been making since 1990s in Armenia, carrying out dozens of humanitarian projects, and to the Hayastan Fund for organizing the award ceremony.
At the same time, President Sarkissian informed that he would continue to cooperate with the Poghossian family and would establish in the future a new presidential award which would be of a larger scope and international level.
