President Armen Sarkissian invited the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Baroness Patricia Scotland to participate to the Armenian Summit of Minds

President Armen Sarkissian sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Baroness Patricia Scotland.

The President mentioned in particular in his letter the Armenian Summit of Minds and ATOM (Advance Tomorrow) presidential initiative. He said that these are aimed to boost at the international level the development of technological and humanitarian fields and could serve as a representative platform for new, unconventional ideas and concepts.

President Sarkissian invited Patricia Scotland to participate to the Armenian Summit of Minds which is to be held on October 10-11 and will be dedicated to geopolitics and artificial intelligence.

Stressing the great success of the last year’s Summit, President Sarkissian expressed hope that it would be a success this year too.

In the framework of other presidential initiatives, which are aimed at the development of science, technologies, and artificial intelligence in Armenia, President Sarkissian referred to the ATOM program and noted that there is interest toward this project on behalf of the world’s major technological companies and that preliminary agreements with some of them will be signed soon.

In the conclusion of the letter, President Sarkissian presented also details on the offensive unleashed recently by Azerbaijan at the Tavush segment of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and underscored in particular that the neighboring country has violated universal values and tried unsuccessfully to solve its short-term problems in the times when the entire world has come together to fight the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Commonwealth of Nations is an intergovernmental organization. In unites 54 countries on all continents, mostly former parts of the British Empire.

Among the members of the Commonwealth are the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Malta, Cyprus, Rwanda, and many other countries.

The total number of people living in the countries of the Commonwealth is close to 2.3 billion which makes one third of the world’s population. The total GDP of all countries of the Commonwealth is 10 trillion USD which makes 14 percent of the global GDP.

Membership to the Commonwealth is open to all countries which recognize and accept its main goals – to assist and support democratic societies and establishment of transparent institutions, good governance, protection of human rights and the rule of law, development of competitive economies of the member states.
