Experts on the creation of the Hay Park: Hay Park’s message is unification of the Armenian nation
Recently, President Armen Sarkissian has presented his initiative to create an all-national Hay Park on the territory of the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial. He said that the idea is based on the notion of unity and joined work.
“Together, we are creating something which is not only for history and memory, which is not only a claim in itself, opportunity to speak out about what happened but is also aimed into future,” the President said and stressed the importance of a unifying message of the initiative. He highlighted also the ecological component of the Hay Park and noted that the capital needs a park, a green zone.
The Presidential Administration has received multiple positive feedbacks on the idea to create a Hay Park from different organizations and individuals in Armenia and Diaspora. President Sarkissian’s initiative was also hailed by experts who have expressed readiness to bring their support and participation to its implementation.
Raymond Haroutioun Kévorkian - a French historian, scholar of the Genocide studies, member of the Board of Trustees of the Armenian Genocide museum-institute expressed confidence that the entire nation would unite around this idea.
The co-author of the Armenian Genocide Memorial, architect Sashur Kalashian noted that the project relates not only to the reconstruction of the park but also to the unification of the Armenian nation.
The daughter of another co-author of the Memorial Arthur Tarkhanian, Anahit Tarkhanian also assessed the reconstruction of the Tsitsernakaberd memorial’s adjacent park as important. “It will unite us all and will provide an opportunity not only to recreated the Tsitsernakaberd park but also, and this is very important, will once again raise the issue of the Armenian Genocide before the international community. Each of us, within the scope of our abilities, ought to participant and bring our contribution to the implementation of this project,” the architect said.
