President Sarkissian told about the legendary agent, the Hero of USSR Gevork Vardanian and his spouse Gohar Vardanian: they were a good example of how to serve the Fatherland being away from it, to love homeland and to never forget it

On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, President Armen Sarkissian told about the legendary agent, the Hero of USSR Gevork Vardanian and his spouse Gohar Vardanian, referring to his old friendship with the couple, meetings and impressions from the conversations he had with them.

“I was lucky to know Gevork and Gohar Vardanians personally, we were great friends,” President Sarkissian said in his remarks. “My mother and Gohar were friends for many years. Their friendship started back in Tehran.”

The President hailed the work and merits of the legendary agents and said that their life, which due to some objective reasons, was not very public, was a beautiful and heroic story which was full of real episodes that sometimes seemed unimaginable.

“Armenians can be not only brilliant scientists, politicians, entrepreneurs but also the best agents of the world. Gohar and Gevork Vardanians proved it,” President Armen Sarkissian noted. They represent an excellent example of how to serve the Fatherland being away from it, to love homeland and to never forget it, what it means not to visit Armenia for such a long time but love it so much and remain Armenian. The Armenian-Russian relations have always been built not only on common human, historical relations, common history but also on the lives of individuals, whether that individual was Hovhannes Ayvazovsky, Hovhannes Baghramian, Victor Hambardzumian, or Gevork and Gohar Vardanians.”

At the proposal of President Sarkissian, the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia Sergei Naryshkin also spoke about the life and work of the legendary agents and underscored their high professionalism and exceptional human characters.
