President Armen Sarkissian continues consultations with international partners related to the coronavirus containment and treatment issues and in this framework, on March 27 he spoke on the phone with the Member of the House of Lords, Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, former minister of health of Great Britain, Professor Ara Darzi and Head of the medical center at the Moscow State University, academician Aramayis Kamalov.
During the conversation with academician Kamalov discussed were issues pertinent to a possible cooperation in the area of medical engineering.
Referring to their previous discussion with Lord Darzi on the new coronavirus, President stressed the importance of combining efforts and cooperation for overcoming the new coronavirus pandemic, as well as exchange of experience and necessity of mutual assistance. The President noted that during his distant learning lecture for the students of the M. Heratsi Medical University of Armenia and National Polytechnic University of Armenia, he offered the future doctors and engineers to work on creating artificial lung ventilation devices, used for the treatment of the coronavirus, and to establish their manufacturing in Armenia. President Sarkissian proposed Lord Darzi to look into the possibilities of assistance to his initiative by the experts of the engineering area from the Imperial college in London and cooperation with the two Armenian universities.
It should be noted that President Armen Sarkissian on March 21 had a phone conversation with the prominent businessman and benefactor, co-founder and President of the American Moderna Therapeutics biotechnological company Noubar Afeyan and discussed with him works aimed at the creation of anti-virus for the coronavirus and its clinical trials.
In this context, President welcomes the video-conference to be held today by the FAST with the participation of Lord Darzi, Noubar Afeyan, Managing Partner Japan, member of the Board of McKIninsey&Company Andre Andonian, co-founder of IDeA Fund, co-founder of UWC Dilijan college, co-founder of Aurora Humanitarian initiative, co-founder and Board member of the Armenian Foundation for Science and Technology (FAST), entrepreneur and investor, benefactor Rouben Vardanian and RA Minister of Health Arsen Torossian. The video-conference will be dedicated to the issues of expanding cooperation and practical steps for assistance.
