After the National Assembly on February 6, 2020 adopted a decision to put changes to the Constitution on referendum and after the Speaker of the National Assembly on February 7 sent it to the President of the Republic, the only function assigned to the President by the Constitution is to set the referendum day.

Guided by Article 206 of the Constitution, the President of Armenia signed a decree to set the date for the referendum on Constitutional changes on April 5.
