President Sarkissian was present at the “Gyumri, My Love” concert: I bow to all those who didn’t despair and believed that life is stronger than death
Tonight, in the framework of Presidential Concert Series initiated by President Armen Sarkissian, the “Gyumri, My Love” concert took place at the Presidential Palace. The concert was dedicated to Gyumri and was attended by President Armen Sarkissian, Speaker of the NA Ararat Mirzoyan, state, public, science and culture figures, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Armenia, guests from the marzes of the Republic.
Along with presenting the musical art of Gyumri, the concert was also a tribute to the victims of the 1988 earthquake. Before starting the concert, the attendees honored their memory with a moment of silence.
Students of Gyumri’s musical and arts schools performed classical, songsters’ and folk music.
At the conclusion of the concert President Sarkissian expressed thanks for the unique and in a sense beautiful day on the eve of the anniversary of the earthquake. “It’s a beautiful day because our children, their parents, grandpas and grandmas proved that love, dedication, diligence, optimism are much stronger than indifference, idleness, and weakness. They proved once again that life is stronger than death,” the President said. “I bow to the memory of innocent victims whose life ended 31 years ago in Kirovakan, Spitak, and Leninakan and also to all those mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who didn’t despair and believed that live is stronger than death and brought their dedication to their children, grandchildren to prove once again that Vanadzor, Spitak, and Gyumri will live forever.”
Wishing every success to the talented children participants of the concerts, President Sarkissian expressed confidence that they would carry on with their parents’ mission, preserving their spiritual and national values and cultural heritage, “I am confident that each of you have a proud heart of a Gyumretsi, and I want you to carry that pride and love for your city, your region, your faith, your Fatherland, and nation throughout your life.”
After the concert, the public had an opportunity to observe also the exhibition of the artworks by the residents of Gyumri opened at the Presidential Palace.
