President Armen Sarkissian received the Speaker of the Parliament of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov

President Armen Sarkissian received today the Speaker of the Parliament of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov and his delegation.

President Sarkissian stressed the importance of a political dialogue between Yerevan and Dushanbe and of the invigoration of the traditionally warm relations between the two countries and the interparliamentary ties. President noted at the same time that the existing level of cooperation does not reflect the existing opportunities and potential for cooperation is much bigger. “Old relations and friendship tomorrow or day after tomorrow will be valued even more. We need to seriously use the excellent history of the friendship of our peoples,” President Sarkissian underscored.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Tajikistan conveyed to the President of Armenia warm greetings and best wished from the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. He expressed confidence that the first official visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Tajikistan to Armenia would contribute to the development and deepening of the bilateral relations. Sh. Zukhurov said that they were interested in a more active cooperation in different areas. He also said that Armenians settled in Tajikistan long ago and have always been active in the state governance system and different areas of public life.

Among promising areas of cooperation President Armen Sarkissian mentioned education, modern technologies, finances and banking system, as well as food production and food security.

According to President Sarkissian, cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian areas should receive a greater substance, particularly, organization of the day of culture and exchange programs. President Sarkissian spoke with the guests about Presidential initiatives and opportunities of cooperation within their framework.
