President Armen Sarkissian received Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia: A great opportunity for two states and peoples
Today, at the Presidential Palace, President Armen Sarkissian hosted the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia, who has arrived to Armenia on official visit, and his delegation. During a private meeting, President Sarkissian welcomed the visit of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia to Armenia. He congratulated him on assuming the office and wished him success in the implementation of all his programs.
Speaking about the Armenian-Georgian relations, President Sarkissian noted that the friendship of the two peoples is millennia-long. “However, now we are at the beginning of the 21st century. A new age, new problems. But I believe that for our two states and peoples it is also a great opportunity,“ the President said.
Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia thanked the President of Armenia for the warm welcome and conveyed to him good wishes from the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili. The Prime Minister of Georgia noted in particular that he was greatly honored to visit Armenia for the first time in his capacity as prime minister and to bring his contribution to the deepening of the centuries-long friendship of the two nations. “Our friendship was forged by our predecessors, now we need to think more about working together. We are here with the understanding that our economic cooperation should influence the well-being of our peoples,“ the Prime Minister of Georgia said.
The private meeting of President Sarkissian and Prime Minister Gakharia was followed by the meeting in the extended format with the participation of the delegations of the two countries. “We discussed with Mr. Prime Minister a number of very important issues. And my conclusion is the following: The opportunities for our joint work are great,“ President Sarkissian said, “Together, we can achieve a lot. I want Mr. Prime Minister to be confident that the Armenian people and the government of the Republic of Armenia, and the Presidential Office will do their best to turn that opportunities into a reality.“
Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia in his turn noted, “We discussed issues related to what our young people should do, our citizens, to be brave in this global, competitive world, to use all opportunities of the day to become more competitive and innovative. I am confident that through the joint efforts our people will be able to win in that competitiveness. In reality, for me it means closer economic relations, in the areas of politics, culture, and education.“ Underscoring that the results of the ties and cooperation between our countries will serve the well-being of the citizens of the two countries, the interlocutors stressed the importance of practical steps.
The parties exchanged views on implementing joint programs in the areas of new technologies, science and education, food security and in the framework of the Presidential initiatives.
