President Sarkissian hosted a group of veterans of the Great Patriotic War: No nation can live without memories
President Armen Sarkissian hosted today a group of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
The President stressed the importance of the victory over fascism nearly 75 years ago and congratulated the veterans on the occasion of this great holiday. The President of Armenia said that we all must remember the victory and those who made it possible. “No nation can live without memories, no state can be built without memories,” President Sarkissian underscored.
Stressing the extraordinary contribution of our people, President Sarkissian said that hundreds of thousands Armenians went to the war to defend not only the Soviet Union but also our Fatherland – Armenia. “Our small nation gave multiple victims but also many heroes,” President Armen Sarkissian said. “For us, Armenians it was not only the war for Armenia but for the entire nation because in those years our brothers and sisters in Spyurk, worried about the future of Fatherland, in different countries were making their contribution. Thus we, a small republic of the Soviet Union made a tremendous contribution to the victory in that war both as Soviet Armenia and as a nation. We proved once again that though we are a small country but we are a global nation. We had the same feeling during the Artsakh War when our nation spread all over the world once again stood up, the Armenian nation stood up to defend our compatriots in Artsakh and their just demand. In the same way, only years ago, during the Four-Day April War, we once again stood united.”
The President congratulated the veterans once again on the occasion of the great victory and thanked them. He wished them good health, a long life and stressed the role of the veterans in the patriotic and military education of the generations, in preserving our historical memory and passing it on to future generations.
