President Armen Sarkissian participated at the international conference: Armenia has become a pioneer of scientific and technological developmen
President Armen Sarkissian participated today at the Evolution and Artificial Intelligence International Conference in Yerevan.
Leading scientists and experts from different countries of the world have arrived to Armenia to participate at the Conference and discuss issues related to evolution, world trends on scientific and technological discoveries, and challenges.
In his opening remarks, President Sarkissian stressed the importance of holding an international conference dedicated to science and technologies in Armenia and noted that our country could become an attractive center for leading sciences, research, and development. “The future of our country has been and will be tied to the future of the world,” President Armen Sarkissian said, “and the future of the world is moving more and more towards the use of innovation, science, and technological discoveries in our everyday life.”
The President of Armenia said that the world is moving towards a rapid development and use of science and technologies. “The future of the world and the humankind will depend on how efficient and peaceful, also how fast we will be able to use the achievements of science and technologies, how productively we will be able to translate science and technology into a practical usage,” Armen Sarkissian said, “and how cautiously we will do that since the using new technologies for any serious undertaking in this world, we have already damaged our planet. Thus, we need to be very prudent in what and how we do it. Any scientific discovery can be positive as well as negative, and we know that all too well. From a hammer to nuclear energy – they serve the humankind but, at the same time, can also be used to destroy the mankind.”
Speaking about his vision for the future of our country, President Sarkissian noted that it is closely tied to the future of the humankind. “We need to understand where the humankind is moving to, where the mankind will be in 20, 30, 40, 50 years from now,”
President Armen Sarkissian said. “And we, Armenia, need to decide what our role in that world will be. What we will be producing, selling, whom with are we going to have trade, be it goods or ideas? And this Conference is an important step in exchanging ideas regarding the future. I am confident that the world’s and Armenia’s future should be closely related to new technologies, the technologies which will appear not 10 or 20 years later, but the technologies which we have today and which will be developed tomorrow.
We have to work a lot and ensure that we are moving in step with the world from the viewpoint of science, technologies, and human behavior.
Everything is becoming more and more integrated. To be efficient, any farmer in this world has to use artificial intelligence, new laser technologies. Any doctor should be aware of technologies since the efficiency of the healthcare ultimately depends on the same artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and new biological discoveries. Any scientist, who is conducting fundamental research today, ultimately wants to see his or her discovery be implemented not 100 years later but tomorrow. When Armenians were working in the area of quantum physics, they were certainly thinking of discoveries, of understanding the universe but at the same time not many of them could imagine the scope their discoveries might have. Today, everything is different.Today every scientist is thinking about the use of his or her discovery.
We are living in a new world, thus welcome to the new world of the 21st century where everything will be interrelated. And Armenia will be related to everything. We want to be a pioneer, to ensure that ten or twenty years later Armenia will be among the leading nations of the world. This is an ambition, a dream but any dream starts from small steps. And one of these steps was to invite here the world famous scientists, leaders in their areas – mathematical modeling, evolution, and artificial intelligence. This fact makes me happy. I wish every success to this Conference.”
