President receives Chairman of International Affairs Committee of RF Federal Assembly
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev, who is in Armenia to attend joint sittings with the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
Welcoming the guest, the President of Armenia said he was happy to host Mr. Kosachev a few weeks after the Munich Security Conference and exchange views on topical issues of international security and discuss the agenda of the Armenian-Russian allied relations in Yerevan.
According to President Sargsyan, the Armenian-Russian relations are distinguished by active dialogue and effective cooperation at all levels - economic, military, military-technical and humanitarian. Emphasizing that the furtherance of Armenia’s strategic partnership with Russia is one of our country’s foreign policy priorities, President Sargsyan noted that Armenia wishes to build constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation with all those integration associations that are key actors in our region.
In this context, the President thanked Konstantin Kosachev for voicing unbiased position on Armenia’s foreign policy priorities at different platforms. The President attached great importance to inter-parliamentary ties in the development and strengthening of Armenian-Russian bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the parliamentary committees’ joint sitting would be held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere and its decisions might have a positive impact on interstate relations.
Thankful for the reception, Konstantin Kosachev shared the President’s opinion about the role of parliamentary diplomacy in interstate relations and went on to note that his country’s top leadership and parliamentarians had the same desire, namely to entertain and develop active, open and meaningful contacts with Armenian partners.
He spoke with satisfaction about the cooperation based on the effective and mutual support of the Armenian and Russian parliamentarians within the framework of international parliamentary organizations.
Konstantin Kosachev presented the issues and resolutions discussed at the Yerevan joint session, which was held in a constructive atmosphere with a focus on the furtherance and strengthening of Armenian-Russian relations and the ongoing cooperation between the two legislatures. He assured that together with their Armenian colleagues they are trying to tap the great cooperation potential built up by the Presidents of Russia and Armenia.
