President visits State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan called at the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan (ASPU) to attend a ceremonious event dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the University.

For significant achievements in the field of education and science, as well as for good and productive work, the President of Armenia handed in State awards and conferred the title of Honored Pedagogue upon a number of university staff. The President congratulated the ASPU faculty, students, alumni and leadership on the University’s 95th anniversary, wishing them new achievements and fruitful activities.

In his congratulatory speech, President Sargsyan highlighted the key role that pedagogical institutions can play in the public life of any country.

“Once again, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to those people who have been awarded Homeland’s high awards. Indeed, the awards were handed to their rightful owners, but be assured that we are thereby appreciating the contribution made by the entire ASPU team. I am convinced that you will do your utmost to see in the University’s 100th anniversary with ever new achievements. Believe me, your job is really important, and that job is getting more and more important in the modern world. I cordially congratulate you all on the 95th anniversary of the University. And since every jubilee, every anniversary is a fresh start in quest of new achievements, I wish you all fruitful efforts,” the President of Armenia said.

The President next called at the ASPU Museum, which presents the background history and the ongoing activities of the University through archival materials.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Yerevan, the Minister of Education and Science, the Rector of the University, the FIDE President and representatives of the Armenian Chess Federation, Serzh Sargsyan toured the newly opened “Chess” Research Institute of the Pedagogical University, which is the only chess teacher training school in the republic.

The Institute is a standalone subdivision of ASPU. It involves leading specialists from different fields of science who will be conducting research on psychological, sociological, educational and other aspects of chess.

“In my capacity of President of the Armenian Chess Federation, I am happy and grateful that you are paying particular attention to chess and keep coming up with new initiatives. It is not accidental that our friend, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is now with us; it is not accidental that our experience is of interest to other countries, which means at least that we are on the right path. I want to believe that this will be continuous,” President Serzh Sargsyan stated in connection with his visit to the newly opened “Chess” Research Institute.
