President holds consultation on major events scheduled for 2018

President Serzh Sargsyan called a consultative meeting to discuss the preparations for three major events due to be held in Armenia in 2018: the Francophonie Summit, the 100th anniversary of proclamation of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles, as well as the 2800th anniversary of the founding of Yerevan.

Note that in order to provide for proper organization of the aforementioned events, ad hoc commissions had been set up with their compositions approved under presidential decrees, after which they were given relevant instructions.

To begin with, President Sargsyan stressed that all of the three events were of particular importance and should be held at the highest possible level.

“As a matter of fact, the Francophonie Summit will be the most important event ever held in Armenia since independence that will bring together heads of State and numerous high-ranking delegations from Francophonie-member countries. More than 100 delegations and up to fifty heads of State are expected to attend the Summit. This is a major event that should be organized smoothly and in the best possible manner in order to testify to the maturity of our State institutions,” the President said.

The preparations for the Francophonie Summit to be held on October 11-12 in Yerevan, and on the fulfillment of presidential instructions were reported by Edward Nalbandyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the Commission established in accordance with the President’s decree.

Progress in the preparations for events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles was reported by Vigen Sargsyan, Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia and Deputy Chairman of the Jubilee Commission.

Mayor of Yerevan, Deputy Chairman of the relevant State commission Taron Margaryan reported on the preparations for jubilee events dedicated the 2800th anniversary of the founding of Yerevan.

Taking note of the reports, President Sargsyan instructed to summarize the proposals received from the stakeholders within a three-week period and present detailed programs along with the names of responsible persons and accurate cost estimates. The President issued other instructions concerning the organizational work.
