President receives participants of “The Role of Constitutional Courts in Overcoming Constitutional Disputes” conference
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the participants of the 22nd “The Role of Constitutional Courts in Overcoming Constitutional Disputes” international conference being held in Yerevan on October 19-21. Welcoming the guests, the President of Armenia highlighted the importance of the conference which, according to the President, is growing into an even more inclusive platform for discussing issues of constitutional justice and revealing terms of cooperation between the Constitutional Courts, international organizations and the European structures.
President Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that since its inception Armenia’s Constitutional Court has been actively involved in the process of developing cooperation in the given area. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the fact that the conference has brought together numerous highly-qualified specialists, speaks of the need for cooperation in such a format. The President noted that cooperation through direct contact is the best way to finding effective solutions to issues of common interest and share experiences.
In this context, President Sargsyan spoke about the cooperation with the European Commission through the Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) and other European entities, thanks to which reforms have been made for years to strengthen democratic institutions in Armenia. The President touched upon Armenia’s constitutional reform of 2015, which became a starting point for the strengthening of public and democratic institutions in Armenia.
The participants of the international conference thanked the President and the forum organizers for a warm reception and high-level organization, respectively. They noted that a very fruitful dialogue had taken place during the past two days, in the context of which a number of topical issues were discussed, including the separation of powers, the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law, the role of constitutional courts in democratic systems, and so on.
In conclusion, the conference participants expressed willingness to keep in close touch and promote interaction between colleagues and counterparts.
