President Serzh Sargsyan receives delegation of U.S. Congressmen
President Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives, consisting of both representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties, including Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier, as well as Congress members Anna Eshoo, Tulsi Gabbard and Jim Sensenbrenner.
Noting that the visit of a U.S. Congress bipartisan delegation to Armenia shows that our country has supporters and friends among both the Republicans and Democrats as regards the development and deepening of USA-Armenia relations, Serzh Sargsyan considered it emblematic that the U.S. lawmakers were visiting Armenia in the jubilee year of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The President of Armenia underscored that during the 26 years of independence Armenia has made significant achievements in different spheres, which was also made possible thanks to the United States’ support.
President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the friendly United States for support of Armenia’s independent statehood as well as for the key role the United States had been playing in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair.
Serzh Sargsyan thanked the U.S. congressmen and especially those from the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues for their years-long efforts in quest of the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide.
The Congressmen said to be happy for the opportunity to celebrate Armenia’s Independence Day in our country together with the Armenian people. Those lawmakers, who had already had the opportunity to be in Armenia during the first years of independence, noted that Armenia has changed considerably ever since, and they could see many positive developments.
The Congressmen expressed readiness to endeavor towards expanding and deepening the U.S-Armenian relations. Taking the opportunity, they shared with President Sargsyan their impressions of a recent visit to Artsakh, noting that they were impressed by Artsakh’s democratic achievements.
