President holds working meeting with Senior Officials’ Ethics Commission

During a working meeting by the President of the Republic, Chairman of Senior Officials’ Ethics Commission Siranush Sahakyan reported back the work done for the past few years, including the achievements and the existing challenges, as well as the measures to address the shortfalls. In particular, she advised that the Commission had introduced the analytical component of the system of electronic declarations, which allows online access to individual databases. In addition, the register of the officials supposed to produce income declarations has been expanded significantly, and a number of legislative proposals aimed at improving the system have been developed and submitted to competent authorities.

The meeting next discussed progress in the implementation of those measures necessitated by the amendments to the law On Public Service. The President of Armenia stressed the importance of providing all necessary prerequisites in order to ensure the effective functioning of the Corruption Prevention Commission, which will be established in 2018 as part of anti-corruption reforms.

President Sargsyan stressed the need for ensuring continuity in the activities aimed at improving the conflict of interest-related legislative provisions, developing impeccable legal regulations, upgrading the electronic system for declaring a conflict of interest, networking and synchronizing databases, as well as implementing in practice the Commission’s new powers to analyze declarations and verify their reliability before the formation of the new anticorruption authority.
