President given summary report of large forest fire extinguishing operations in the territory of Khosrov Forest State Reserve

Once back to office from a short leave, President Serzh Sargsyan was given a summary report of operations that the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia had been implementing to extinguish the large forest fire of August 12 in the territory of Khosrov Forest State Reserve and another forest fire near Artavan village of Vayots-Dzor Marz of Armenia in cooperation with other State agencies and local self-governing bodies, as well as with the support of private companies.

Minister of Emergency Situations David Tonoyan reported back on the challenges and problems faced throughout the firefighting effort, as well as the measures implemented as a follow-up to the President’s commissions issued a few days earlier, including his assignment to ask for a special plane from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation in support of the firefighting activities.

The President will hold a consultation on August 15 involving all the ministries and departments concerned to discuss current situation, preventive steps and ways of dealing with the environmental problems caused by forest fires.
