President received delegation of the European Parliament

President Serzh Sargsyan received today delegation of the European Parliament which has arrived to monitor the parliamentary elections which will take place in Armenia on April 2. The President of Armenia welcomed the guests some of whom, according to the President, have been to Armenia before, are familiar with the events going on in our country and the process of reforms.

The President stressed the importance of the tomorrow elections for Armenia and her citizens and noted that the elections will form a parliament which will act under a new, parliamentary system of governance.

Serzh Sargsyan and parliamentarians spoke about extensive works conducted in the pre-election phase, including the improvement of the electoral processes as stipulated by the new Electoral Code, introduction of strict monitoring mechanisms which, according to the interlocutors, have created a good base for conducting the elections in line with high international standards. President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the European Union for the considerable assistance to that works.

The parties stressed the importance of conducting monitoring missions on a high professional level, keeping it balanced, based solely on facts as well as the observers unbiased position throughout the elections.

At the meeting, discussed were also issues related to the Armenia-EU ties and cooperation. At the request of the guests, President Sargsyan presented the priorities of Armenia’s internal and foreign policies, the NK peace process, and Armenia’s approach with regard to the process.
