President Serzh Sargsyan received today the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter.
Welcoming the guest, the President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that since the establishment of diplomatic relations the Armenian-American interstate relations have been developing incessantly and the two friendly states are approaching the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the relations with considerable achievements. Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the Government of the United States for the years-long assistance provided by the US to Armenia’s economic development, reforms in different areas, strengthening of democracy, and civil society. He also highly praised the role of the United States in maintaining stability in our region. The President of Armenia stressed the importance of the Armenian-American cooperation in the defense area, particularly the assistance of the US to the reforms in the RA defense area, to the strengthening of capabilities in the areas of military medicine, humanitarian demining, and peacekeeping. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the visit of Michael Carpenter will contribute to the furthering of the Armenia-US relations. The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that the current high level relations between Armenia and the United States are based on mutual respect and sympathy of the two nations, and today Armenia and the United States enjoy strong partnership on bilateral as well as multilateral levels.
The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter expressed his gratitude for Armenia’s contribution to the peacekeeping efforts.
President Sargsyan and Michael Carpenter discussed issues related to the deepening of cooperation in the military, international, and regional security areas.
