President Serzh Sargsyan met today with the representatives of the Armenian community of Syria and some Armenian structures, benefactors involved in the issues of the community, and relevant officials.

“Unfortunately, it’s been some time that Syria and particularly Aleppo because of the tragic events going on there, constantly stay in the center of attention of the international media. For us, I mean Armenians, Syria, Aleppo are not just familiar names as for many other people; it’s a country, a place where our compatriots reside. For that very reason our Consulate General in Aleppo is functioning even now when all diplomatic representations of all other countries have left the city.
I will state unequivocally that our position has been and remains the same: every Syrian Armenian has the right to come to Armenia; moreover, if he or she leaves Syria, it is desirable that they come to Armenia. We are ready to do everything possible to create minimal conditions, so that people are able in time to integrate into our society and solve their problems,” said the President of Armenia.

Sarkissian and other participants of the meeting shared with President Sarkissian their concerns on the situation resulting frim the unceasing military actions in Syria, proposals on the joint support the Armenian community of Syria and expressed gratitude for the years-long, consistent, cordial and compassionate attitude and all possible assistance provided by the Republic of Armenia and Armenian structures to our compatriots in Syria.
