President received Secretary General of the UN World Tourist Organization

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of the UN World Tourist Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai.

The President of Armenia welcomed the guest to Armenia and highlighted the role and standing of the Organization as the main international forum in the area of tourism. Stressing the importance of the UNWTO long and efficient cooperation with our country, Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the visit of the Secretary General will serve as a new impetus for the future development and deepening of that cooperation. The President saluted the convening of the 38th session of the UNWTO affiliated countries in Armenia and noted that the event is also a good opportunity to familiarize with the rich Armenian cultural and historical heritage.

At the meeting, Taleb Rifai presented to the President of Armenia programs carried out by the UNWTO so far and aimed at the development of tourism in Armenia and underscored that there is a good base to continue and strengthen the cooperation. According to the Secretary General of the World Tourist Organization, in recent years considerable progress has been registered in the improvement of the infrastructure starting from the airport. At the meeting with the President of Armenia, Taleb Rifai presented his vision and proposals for the full realization of Armenia’s tourism potential and regarding the works aimed at presenting Armenia with all her advantages and splendor.
