Meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State took place in Bishkek
President Serzh Sargsyan in Bishkek participated at the meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State which took place first in the restricted format with the participation of the Presidents and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organization and later in the extended format, with the participation of the official delegations.
In the framework of the agenda, the Heads of State discussed issues pertinent to the cooperation of the CIS member states in the political, economic, and humanitarian areas as well as over a dozen of issues related to the new challenges and threats. Later, there took place the document signing ceremony. The Heads of the CIS member states signed the Presidential Declaration on the 25th anniversary of the CIS, Declaration on the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the Nuremberg trials, and a decision on the adaptation of the CIS to the existing realities. At the meeting of the Council it was also decided to declare on the territory of the CIS year 2017 the Year of Family and 2018 - the Year of Culture. Among other documents signed at the meeting, there was also the decision to conduct in 2020 a census in the CIS member states, to sign a convention on the development of the Inter-regional cooperation, a program on cooperation of the CIS member states for 2017-2019 on fight against terrorism and other manifestation of extremism, and a program of cooperation of the CIS member states for 2016-2020 on fight against crime with the use of information technologies.
It was also decided to convey the next meeting of the CIS Heads of States in 2017 in Moscow. Presidency at the CIS for year 2017 was passed on to the Russian Federation.
