President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Secretary General of Socintern Luis Ayala. Present at the meeting were also the Deputy Secretary General Mario Nalbandian and member of that global organization, representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Armen Rustamian.
The President of Armenia and Secretary General of SI recalled warmly their previous meeting, which took place almost a year ago in Yerevan, during which they conversed candidly and openly about a number of issues of mutual interest.
The President of Armenia highly praised activities of the Socintern which unites all over the world the socialist and social-democratic political forces and whose values and political goals are freedom, justice, and solidarity and said that they are very current and sadly the contemporary world needs them very much.
On behalf of his organization, Luis Ayala expressed concern on the situation which emerged after the violation of the ceasefire regime at the NKR line of contact at the beginning of April. The Secretary General of the Socialist International asked the President of Armenia to present his view with regard to the rising tension and on behalf of the SI expressed readiness within the scope of the Organization’s abilities to promote dialogue and resolution of the conflict through contacts. Luis Ayala spoke about their programs developed toward this end and concurred with the President of Armenia that the more open and candid the meetings and discussions are, and the more precise the positions, the more useful it will be for the process.
The Secretary General of the SI spoke with satisfaction about the cooperation with Armenia through the ARF, which is the member of the Organization, and said that cooperation becomes stronger by year.
At the meeting, Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of the continuously constructive position adopted by the SI on the issues which are sensitive for Armenia at different international platforms and in the countries which have parties – members of the SI.
The parties spoke also about the situation in the region, Armenian-Turkish relations, and the process of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
