President received the UN Undersecretary-General Shamshad Akhtar
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the UN Undersecretary-General, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific region (ESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar. The parties discussed issues related to the cooperation between Armenia and the ESCAP. The President of Armenia stressed the importance of the works carried out by the Commission and on behalf of our country expressed readiness to develop cooperation with that structure.
Noting that today Asia and the Pacific region is facing serious challenges, which hampers its economic development, Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of active actions to be taken by the international community to form a comprehensive agenda, develop a wide-ranging agenda which will allow to respond to and withstand these challenges. The President of Armenia assured that our country is ready to bring its modest participation to the process and attached utmost significance to the cooperation with the Commission which can serve as a good platform for discussions.
Shamsad Akhtar shared the President’s viewpoint on the situation in the region and underscored that she was optimistic about the future. She expressed gratitude to Armenia for the readiness to cooperate with the Commission. Shamsad Akhtar presented programs of the Commission aimed at the sustainable development of the region, necessary boosting measures and stressed the importance of the economic vision of the countries of the region and political commitments.
The parties highlighted the significance of the regional integration processes and enhanced cooperation. Discussed were also issues pertinent to the problems of the landlocked countries, and in that context programs implemented by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific region.
