President Sargsyan received the world famous Serb director and musician Emir Kusturica
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the world famous Serb director and musician Emir Kusturica.
At the beginning of the meeting, the celebrated intellectual presented Serzh Sargsyan the collection of his short stories which was published this year. The collection is named One Hundred Torments. Emir Kusturica noted that commemoration by the Armenian people in 2015 of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was an emotional moment for all those who are familiar with the history of the Armenian people and for the nations which in the course of their history went through similar calamities. The renowned musician said that the concert to be held tonight in Yerevan is his and his band’s small contribution to the commemoration of the centennial of the Genocide, which according to Emir Kusturica also symbolizes a hope for a better future.
President Sargsyan welcomed the celebrated director and said that his visit is undoubtedly an important event in the cultural life of our country, and the Armenian people have warm feelings for Emir Kusturica and his art which professes all-human values. According to the President, similar destinies of the Armenian and Serb people make Kusturica’s movies even more acceptable for the Armenian art lovers.
Serzh Sargsyan noted that he recalled warmly his previous meeting with the celebrated movie director, which took place in 2010, and would always be happy to host him in our country. The President thanked the world-famous intellectual for his exceptionally respectful attitude towards the Armenian nation and its history and for this initiative – to organize a commemorative concert which will take place tonight in Yerevan.
