President received the head of the CIS observer mission Evgeni Sloboda
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the head of the CIS observer mission Evgeni Sloboda. The President of Armenia welcomed the guest and his delegation to Armenia and noted that referendum on constitutional changes has been an important event in the history of our country and it is pleasing that different international organizations as well as the CIS observer mission, which is the largest and most representative among the missions, have been following the course of the referendum. The President noted that Armenia views as very important politically neutral and objective assessments of the observers.
Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that before the referendum, in all steps following the initiation of the constitutional changes, it was possible to preserve in the country publicity and transparency in accordance with the principles of democracy, engagement of the political forces in the process; everything was done for the proper organization and carrying out of the referendum, including full compliance with Armenia’s internal laws and international obligations with regard to proving corresponding conditions for all observer missions.
The head of the CIS observer mission presented the conclusion of the mission regarding the referendum, which was also announced during the meeting with the journalists, and underscored once again that the first and foremost conclusion of the mission was that at all levels - state authorities, local governance bodies, as well as precinct commissions - provided all necessary conditions for the citizens to vote and express their will freely and unobstructed. “We felt that when we visited multiple precincts. I can tell one thing: the voting was conducted in a free and calm atmosphere, open and transparent. I was impressed with the fact that every member of the commission knew his or her duties. I congratulate you on your initiative gaining public support,” said head of the CIS observer mission Evgeni Sloboda at the meeting with the President of Armenia. He spoke with satisfaction about conditions create for the work of observer missions and underscored that it allowed, in particular, his observer mission to conduct the entire observation of the referendum thoroughly, in accordance with their mandate.
