President received the Co-Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee of PACE on Armenia Alan Meale

President Serzh Sargsyan received today Alan Meale, PACE Co-Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee for verifying the fulfillment by Armenia of her obligations. He has arrived to our country with the PACE mission which will observe the referendum on constitutional changes.

The President welcomed the guest and noted that regular meetings such as this one provide a good opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues pertaining to the Armenia-Council of Europe cooperation.

Serzh Sargsyan hailed assistance provided by the Council of Europe in strengthening democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Armenia and underscored that reforms conducted in Armenia in recent years have been continuous and consistent.
According to the President, presence of the observer mission, which has arrived at the invitation of the National Assembly of Armenia to observe the referendum on constitutional changes, provides them with a good opportunity to observe also the impact of the reforms implemented in Armenia on the electoral process.

The PACE Co-Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee on Armenia and member of the observer mission Alan Meale spoke with satisfaction about the preliminary works and administrative process carried out after the introduction of the President’s initiative on constitutional changes, and works conducted so far with the electorate. He also commended the fact that the draft of the document was developed in close cooperation with the Venice Commission, whose assessment was given due attention and taken into consideration in moving forward with the entire process. “We wish you all the best in your efforts related to the changes in the Constitution of Armenia,” said Alan Meale.
