President Serzh Sargsyan received delegation of the European Athletics Federation

 
President Serzh Sargsyan received today delegation of the European Athletics Federation headed by the President of the Federation, member of the Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations Svein Arne Hansen. Present at the meeting were also the Director General of the Federation Christian Milz, RA Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Gabriel Ghazarian and President of the Athletics Federation of Armenia Robert Emmian.

The newly appointed President of the European Athletics Federation is visiting Armenia to familiarize with the development of athletics in Armenia, learn about the athletics events organized in Armenia, including the results of the semi-marathon which was held in Armenia for the first time on October 3, 2015. The visit will also enhance the conclusion of the construction in Armenia of the cycle track with the synthetic surface which will correspond to international standards. Construction of such a track will allow to hold in our country major international sport events.
The President welcomed the guest and stressed that Armenia is a country which has good traditions particularly in athletics, and today that sporting activity has great potential for development. Serzh Sargsyan discussed with the participants of the meeting the current situation with athletics in our country, prospects and possibilities for the creation of the state sponsored conditions and incentives for the promotion of athletics.

Svein Arne Hansen thanked the President of Armenia for warm welcome and for his close attention to athletics - one of the most important Olympic sports. He said that preliminary works related to the construction in Armenia of the cycle track with the synthetic surface have been concluded, and the European Athletics Federation is ready to provide free funds to complete the construction of the track. He noted that in this endeavor they anticipate assistance of the Armenian government.

President Serzh Sargsyan assured the high guest that Armenia is ready to support the implementation of the program and that the relevant officials will work diligently to bring the project to its conclusion in accordance with the established timetable.
