President Serzh Sargsyan receives RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov
President Serzh Sargsyan received today Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Greeting the guest, the president expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Armenian-Russian allied relations have been developing dynamically, which is certainly fostered by regular visits at different levels, including the meetings between the RA and RF presidents held during this year. A number of high-level meetings also took place during the events in the EAEU, CSTO and CIS formats. According to the RA president, the representatives of the two countries’ legislative and executive authorities have had regular contacts. Some scheduled sessions of inter-governmental and inter-parliamentary events commissions were held this year. A few days ago, the 4th Inter-Regional Cooperation Forum successfully finished its activities in Yerevan which was also joined by Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly. At the end of October, the 3rd International Forum of the Alumni of Moscow State Institute of International Relations was held in Yerevan in memory of the 200th anniversary of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages.
According to the president, all those meetings and events were useful and productive for both parties. Serzh Sargsyan was sure that such intensity of contacts bears testimony to the two countries’ mutual desire to develop their allied collaboration in all directions and to their readiness to jointly discuss the current issues within the frames of existing formats.
The interlocutors agreed that Armenia and Russian have been consistently promoting their cooperation in the economic, military technical and humanitarian spheres. In the last one and a half years, the legal framework have been enriched by almost three dozen interstate, inter-governmental, inter-ministerial and inter-regional documents, which, according to them, bear witness to the business of the bilateral agenda. President Serzh Sargsyan highly appreciated the RF role in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and in promoting security and stability in the region.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conveyed the RF president’s warm greetings to the RA president and underscored that Vladimir Putin is committed to bringing to life the high-level agreements between Armenia and Russia. Sergey Lavrov, too, expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in the course of multifaceted collaboration between Armenia and Russia, as well as with the dynamically developing relationships within the frames of integration processes. According to him, Armenia’s full-fledged membership in the EAEU will certainly have a positive impact on deepening and developing economic relations.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed once again that there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
At the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged views on contemporary international issues and challenges.
