President receives Herbert Salber, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia
President Serzh Sargsyan received today Herbert Salber, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
The president welcomed the guest and attached importance to frequent meetings and discussions which, according to the president, have hitherto been sincere and meaningful, in order for him to fulfill his mission effectively. Serzh Sargsyan stressed that today it is important, more than ever, the maintenance of the EU’s balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the fulfillment of its commitment to creating a favorable environment for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict.
Ambassador Salber placed importance on the speedy and peaceful resolution of the conflict and assured the president that the EU is committed to proceeding with its balanced policy in the region.
Armenia’s president touched upon the situation following his previous meeting with Herbert Salber about four months ago and noted that in that brief period of time, tensions have been seriously exacerbated in the region, posing an immediate threat to the security of the NK and Armenian bordering regions.
The president underscored that Armenia is ready to continue its constructive cooperation to help maintain and promote peace, stability and security in the region.
At the guest’s request, Serzh Sargsyan presented his approaches to the recent developments of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Serzh Sargsyan attached weight to the targeted and not general statements of the international community and authorized international organizations with regard to ceasefire violations, as well as to taking concrete measures to prevent further provocations.
At the meeting, the parties stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can’t be settled through war, and it can only be resolved based on compromises acceptable for all the parties involved.
