President receives EU Special Representative for South Caucasus and crisis in Georgia
President Serzh Sargsyan received today Herbert Salber, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
The interlocutors discussed issues pertaining to security and stability in the region, the current stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, the present issues and possible efforts at pushing forward the peace process, as well as to the promotion of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.
The Armenian president stressed once again that Armenia greatly appreciates the EU’s balanced position on the NK conflict, as well as its commitment to creating a conducive environment for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict. President Sargsyan placed importance on the Eastern Partnership Summit held in Riga from 21 to 22 May and its full support of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ conflict resolution efforts, including on the statements made by those countries’ presidents since 2009.
Herbert Salber underscored that the formulations about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict stipulated in the Riga Declaration were truly fair and fully adequate to the situation.
He reiterated the EU’s support for negotiations in the format of the OSCE Minks Group Co-Chairs, emphasizing that the EU’s position on that format remains the same.
