President Serzh Sargsyan receives representatives of Democrat Youth Community of Europe

President Serzh Sargsyan today received the representatives of the Democrat Youth Community of Europe (DEMYC).

The Armenian President welcomed the arrival of around 50 young men to Armenia from 16 countries to take part in the DEMYC Council Meeting being held in Yerevan during these days. The council has adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide. At the meeting, DEMYC Secretary-General Javier Hurtado Mira handed over the resolution to the Armenian President.

Serzh Sargsyan stressed that that is very important for him to get in touch with youth cycles because it provides a good opportunity to get acquainted with a new generation of leaders.

“I am confident that after some time, we will see very many of you discussing serious issues within the frames of key European platforms. I know that you have adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide for which I am both glad and grateful. I am grateful because that issue is of great significance for the Armenian people living both in Armenia and all over the world. I am glad because the younger generation, too, knows very well what impunity and indifference can result in, and I am glad that you attach importance to living in a world free of genocides and crimes against humanity. It is extremely important. Tomorrow, when you will become leaders, remember that you adopted a vital resolution in Yerevan and remain faithful to your conviction,” said Serzh Sargsyan in his speech to the young men.

The President was sorry to mention that the recent-year events in the Middle East have demonstrated that there still exists a danger for such crimes, and it is still relevant today to fight against them.

The young men assured President Serzh Sargsyan that as the numerous dignitaries, prestigious organizations and the representatives of different state delegations that have visited Armenia during these days, they, too, have joined the Armenian people in that struggle, and their support is very honest and sincere.

At the meeting, the President responded to the questions of the DEMYC representatives related to the Armenian Genocide, the development prospects of Armenia-Turkey relations, Armenia’s foreign policy priorities and its European agenda, the current global challenges and the opportunities to overcome them jointly, as well as to a number of other topics.
