President attends consecration ceremony of Saint Martyrs Church
RA President Serzh Sargsyan, Chairman of the State Commission on Coordination of the Events for the Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, today attended the consecration ceremony of Holy Martyrs Church to be built next to the pantheon in the capital’s Komitas Park. The ceremony was led by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
The church construction is sponsored by Russia-based benefactor Samvel Karapetyan and the designer is architect Artak Ghulyan.
The Armenian President talked about the construction project of Holy Martyrs Church in 2012 during the public presentation ceremony of the project of the Komitas Museum-Institute’s building at Komitas Park. “I think that one of the ways to perpetuate the memory of Komitas and all our martyrs could be the construction of Holy Martyrs Church in the central part of Yerevan. The desire to build such a church has been expressed by numerous secular and ecclesiastical figures.
Holy Martyrs Church will epitomize the memory of our innocent victims and all our martyrs of all time and will be the guarantee of our lasting remembrance,” said President Serzh Sargsyan.
