Newly-appointed Irish Ambassador to Armenia presents his credentials to President
John Biggar, the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to the Republic of Armenia, today handed over his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.
The Armenian President congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and expressed the hope that during his diplomatic tenure John Biggar, an experienced diplomat, will elevate Armenian-Irish relations to a qualitatively new level.
Noting that it has been almost 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Ireland, Serzh Sargsyan stressed that despite the geographical distance, the two countries have many civilizational and cultural similarities – the same set of Christian values, difficult history and presence of diasporas all over the world – which helps to further promote cooperation.
The interlocutors agreed that conducting active political dialogue will also foster trade and economic ties between Armenia and Ireland.
The RA President and the Irish ambassador attached importance to promoting close cooperation and sharing experience in a number of promising areas, e.g. humanitarianism, information technology, agriculture, pharmaceutics. The parties also placed value on enhancing mutual support and boosting effective cooperation between the two countries in the frame of different international organizations.
At the meeting, the Armenian President introduced Ambassador John Biggar to the commemorative events marking the Armenian Genocide Centennial in 2015 and touched upon their significance.
Ambassador Biggar thanked for the congratulation and assured that during this diplomatic tenure he would do his best to strengthen ties between Armenia and Ireland, adding that there were all the necessary prerequisites for that.
