President Serzh Sargsyan receives Russian State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin
President Serzh Sargsyan today received Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who has arrived in Armenia on a working visit.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the strategic partnership between Armenia and Russia and their bilateral agenda embracing all cooperation areas. The parties stressed that inter-parliamentary relations hold a special place in strengthening the strategic collaboration between Armenia and Russia and have been effectively promoted also within the frame of the parliamentary assemblies of international organizations.
Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that owing to the long-standing activities of the inter-parliamentary cooperation commission between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, inter-parliamentary ties between Armenia and Russia have been growing stably and dynamically. According to the Armenian President, the issues discussed at commission sessions cover various areas of cooperation between the two countries and contribute to the establishment of legislative bases, thereby ensuring the harmonious development of Armenian-Russian interstate cooperation.
Serzh Sargsyan and Sergey Naryshkin also touched upon the development of Armenian-Russian trade and economic ties in the context of new integration processes. The parties underscored that by joining the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia and Russia have elevated their mutually beneficial partnership to a qualitatively new level, and it is necessary to do everything to make the most of that integration arrangement and to boost mutual prosperity.
At the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on current world and regional problems and challenges, including issues related to the maintenance of stability and security in the South Caucasus.
