President receives members of Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Commission

President Serzh Sargsyan today received the members of the Commission for Armenia-European Union (EU) Parliamentary Cooperation who had arrived in Armenia to take part in the 15th session of the Armenia-EU Commission held in Yerevan from 19 to 20 March.

The President greeted the guests and said that holding the commission session in Yerevan provided a good chance to conduct open exchange of views on issues of public concern and for genuine dialogue. Serzh Sargsyan expressed the hope the decisions to be adopted at the session would help to enhance cooperation between Armenia and the EU. The Armenian President highly appreciated the Final Statement issued by the commission, particularly the provisions condemning the Armenian Genocide – one of the most serious crimes of the 20th century – in the year of its 100th anniversary. The President stressed that the document is the fourth document adopted by European organizations during this month which sends an important message to Turkey that the European family not remembers the first Genocide of the 20th century, but also unanimously recognizes and condemns it. Serzh Sargsyan also praised the European parliamentarians' impartial attitude towards the NK conflict.

The members of the Commission for Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation said that the current week has been quite useful in terms of thoroughly discussing the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and of touching upon the prospects for promotion of relations based on shared values.

At the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan also responded to the questions of the parliamentarians related to Armenia's foreign policy, stability and security in the region, the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and to a number of other topics.
