President receives Lithuanian Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis
President Serzh Sargsyan today received Juozas Bernatonis, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guest to our country and attached importance to senior-level reciprocal visits in terms of strengthening and developing bilateral interstate relations.
The Armenian President expressed satisfaction with the fact that in recent years the relationship between Armenia and Lithuania has been developing dynamically, there are diplomatic missions based in the two countries’ capital cities and senior-level reciprocal visits are conducted regularly. According to the President, despite all this, the Armenian-Lithuanian great cooperation potential in economic sector has not been fully realized yet; therefore it is necessary to carry out a great deal of work towards improving the legal framework. Serzh Sargsyan attached great weight to promoting collaboration between the Armenian and Lithuanian Ministries of Justice and welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Inter-Ministerial Cooperation as part of Minister Bernatonis’s visit.
At the meeting, the President once again extended his thanks to the Lithuanian Parliament for recognizing the Armenian Genocide in 2005 which according Serzh Sargsyan bears testimony to Lithuanian parliamentarians’ commitment to universal values.
Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis placed great value on the agreements made during his visit to Yerevan, underscoring that it is necessary to develop bilateral relations more systematically. Noting that his country supports Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, the minister stressed that Lithuania, as a friendly country and partner, is willing to help Armenia to deepen cooperation with the European Union.
