President receives Israeli historian and genocide expert Yair Auron
President Serzh Sargsyan today received Israeli historian and genocide expert Yair Auron who was accompanied by writer and publicist Zori Balayan. The President welcomed the guest and stressed that he was glad to meet one of the best friends of the Armenian people in Yerevan again. Serzh Sargsyan attached great importance to the visits of our people’s friends to Armenia especially in 2015 – the year marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide – and to their participation in the ceremonies commemorating the memory of the innocent genocide victims.
The Armenian President once again extended his thanks to the eminent Israeli intellectual for his invaluable contribution to the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as for his continued interest in our people’s problems and the readiness to be of help. Serzh Sargsyan also welcomed Yair Auron’s visit to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as part of the visit.
Yair Auron expressed his gratitude for the kind words and noted that he was greatly impressed with Nagorno-Karabakh and its peace-loving and decent people. He underscored that many people in Israel are not aware of Karabakh and when they know the truth, toward which he has already began to work, they will certainly stand beside the Armenian people. The Israeli historian emphasized that he was sure when one is engaged in a moral struggle one must stick to that path. He assured that he would continue to fight together with his numerous friends.
