President Serzh Sargsyan today received a delegation headed by the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Ashot Ghoulian. The delegation has arrived in Armenia to participate in the 10th session of the RA NA and the NKR NA Inter-parliamentary Committee on Cooperation.
Welcoming the guests, the Armenian President expressed satisfaction with the fact that over the recent years Armenia’s and Nagorno-Karabakh’s public administration bodies have been promoting very close cooperation, in that regard highlighting inter-parliamentary relations. Serzh Sargsyan noted that a long time has passed since his previous meeting with the parliamentarians during which numerous events have taken place both in Armenia and Artsakh and expressed his readiness to discuss all the issues which are or can be of interest to Nagorno-Karabakh’s society and its authorities.
The NKR NA Speaker thanked President Serzh Sargsyan for the meeting and the discussion of issues regarding inter-parliamentary cooperation, for providing useful information about a number of contemporary issues that are of great importance to Armenia and Artsakh, as well as for the readiness to present his observations on a series of past events.
At the outset, Ashot Ghoulian presented the items put on the agenda of the inter-parliamentary session that has kicked off in Yerevan today which, in the NKR NA Speaker’s opinion, embrace all urgent topics that have arisen since the previous session. According to him, they were classified into two categories: topics pertaining to joint sessions and discussions of the RA and NKR parliaments’ standing committees and topics pertaining to discussions around the NKR conflict in international parliamentary organizations and reports of RA delegations. The Speaker of the NKR Parliament and the delegation members considered the discussions and the exchange of information made within the framework of the session useful, expressing satisfaction with the fact that new and effective formats have enlarged collaboration between the legislatures of the two republics, thereby further enhancing inter-parliamentary ties.
At the request of the guests, President Serzh Sargsyan reflected upon vital issues concerning Armenia’s internal and foreign policy, including the recent developments around the peace process of the NKR conflict, the process of Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, the prospects for developing Armenia-European Union relations, the process of constitutional amendments and upon a number of other issues, as well as answered the questions of the parliamentarians.
Lastly the interlocutors underscored that a stable and strong Armenia is the main guarantor of Artsakh’s security and peace.
