President Serzh Sargsyan visits Byurakan camp of National Scout Organization
President Serzh Sargsyan visited today the Byurakan camp of the National Scout Organization, where since this August 18 over 300 young scouts aged 12-17 have been attending a nationwide Jamboree. For the second consecutive year, they have been joined by welfare institution inmates coming from various regions of Armenia who are beneficiaries of the Peace Messengers project.
Welcoming the participants in the Jamboree, the President toured the camping site, observing the scouts’ daily routine and living conditions.
Under a government decree signed in 2011, Armenia’s National Scout Movement was allocated one hectare of land for free (permanent) use, where a camping site was set up making it possible to host a greater number of scouts during this year’s Jamboree.
On this March 29, Phoenix Foundation-supported construction work was launched under the President’s auspices that came to completion on July 29.
The President inaugurated the symbolic plaque heralding the birth of the new camping site. The built-up area can now host some 400 participants. Serzh Sargsyan was also present at the Byurakan Camp closing ceremony.

Аdditional Information on National Scout Movement of Armenia (NSMA)
Founded in Constantinople as early as in 1918, the Armenian General Athletic Union (AGAU) operated in Armenia in 1920-1923. It was reinstated in the Motherland on December 2, 1989, and was among the first NGOs engaged in youth activities in the newly independent Armenia.
The AGAU/NSMA – National Scout Movement of Armenia - is the carrier of the Armenian General Athletic Union’s best traditions. Since 1997, the NSMA has been a full member of the World Scout Movement, while since 1998 it has been a founding member of “Eurasia” regional movement, which brings together similar organizations from former Soviet Union countries.
