President Serzh Sargsyan met with the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili
Today, on the invitation of Serzh Sargsyan, the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili arrived in the Republic of Armenia on an official visit.
The President of Georgia visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide paying tribute to the memory of the innocent victims and planted a tree at the Alley of Memory of the Memorial Complex.
After the official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Serzh Sargsyan and Giorgi Margvelashvili held a private meeting which was followed by the extended-format negotiations with the participation of the two countries' delegation members.
Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the President of Georgia and the delegation led by him and expressed hope that President Giorgi Margvelashvili's first official visit to Armenia will give a new impulse to the cooperation between the two countries, as well as the friendship and brotherhood of the Armenian and Georgian people. At the meeting, the President of Armenia took the opportunity once again congratulating Giorgi Margvelashvili on the occasion of his election as the President of Georgia and wished him successes. Serzh Sargsyan made sure that, in the framework of the visit, effective discussions allowed by the continuously developing level of the bilateral relations will be held regarding all the issues which are included in the Armenian-Georgian agenda.
President Serzh Sargsyan noted that it is important to also listen to President Giorgi Margvelashvili's position on the regional situation because the level of the bilateral relations, indeed, give an opportunity to constructively observe all the issues which are of interest for both Armenia and Georgia.
In the framework of the negotiations a number of infrastructural projects being of bilateral interest were also discussed. According to the parties, those projects are important from the point of view of the two countries’ economic progress.
The President of Georgia Margvelashvili thanked Serzh Sargsyan for the invitation and the warm reception stressing that Armenia and its capital bring lots of very warm memories. In addition, according to President Margvelashvili, there is a centuries-old culture of the two peoples’ joint life in this region. The President of Georgia noted that, in his opinion, today the two countries continue to build the foundation already laid down by their ancestors. In his words, it is the basis of friendly relations, cultural ties, as well as contacts between peoples. He underscored that the Armenians of Javakhk do a lot for Georgia: they reinforce the economy of Georgia and enrich the culture. Giorgi Margvelashvili made sure that by not losing their traditions and holding them as well as the language sacred, the Armenians in Georgia obviously enrich the Georgian culture as well. He underscored that Georgia where different cultures develop and sprout is a meeting point for freedom and cultures.
In the opinion of Georgia's President, the visit of the delegation led by him to Yerevan is important also from the point of view of discussing the regional issues, because the Armenian and Georgian peoples live in the same region, have a common future in that region, and the participation of Armenia in the regional processes is significant. President Margvelashvili also expressed hope that the current issues between the two countries will be settled as a result of the negotiations carried on in the good-neighborly atmosphere.
The Presidents of Armenia and Georgia summed up the results of both the narrow and extended-format negotiations before of the representatives of mass media.
