President received the British Group’s delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the British Group’s delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union headed by John Whittingdale.
The President welcomed the guests noting with satisfaction that some delegation members have already visited Armenia a few times, are well informed about the agenda of the British-Armenian relations and have made their contribution to the development of bilateral collaboration. Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the other British parliamentarians visiting our country for the first time will have an opportunity to discover Armenia as far as possible during the visiting days. “In the advancement of Armenian-British relations, I stress the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the British-Armenian Group’s activity and I am sure that the enlivening which we witness during the last two years is the result of the active participation of the Group’s remained parliamentarians. And we are greatly interested in the advancement of those relations,”- underscored the President.
Serzh Sargsyan also stressed the importance of the parliamentarians’ visits to Nagorno-Karabakh and expressed his appreciation to the British parliamentarians who have been to Artsakh, have familiarized the first hand with the state-building process of Nagorno-Karabakh which, according to the President, will certainly help them to present the objective reality about Artsakh to the British society.
Thanking for the reception, the members of the British Parliament expressed willingness to continue and to more activate their support efforts to Armenia and the Armenian people. They said that those efforts are directed to both the consolidation and advancement of the Armenian-British bilateral relations and to the further development of Armenia-EU relations, as well as to the solution of the issues important for Armenia and for the Armenian people. “We all, these members of the British Group’s delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, being members of different parties and factions in the British Parliament, make joint efforts to support Armenia and consider ourselves the friends of Armenia, who are going to continue their mission after this visit as well having a more comprehensive and better idea as a result of exhaustive information,”-said the British parliamentarians at the meeting with the President.
During the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan answered the questions of the guests related to the internal and foreign policy of Armenia, the further consolidation of the Armenian-British bilateral relations, the future of Armenia-EU relations and the intentions and programs of cooperation, the Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union, as well as to regional issues, the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the efforts of Armenia and international community directed to that.
