President received delegation headed by the Vice Prime Minister of Iraq Rosh Nuri al-Shawish

President Serzh Sargsyan received today delegation headed by the Vice Prime Minister of Iraq Rosh Nuri al-Shawish.

Welcoming the members of the delegation to our country, the President noted that he recalls warmly the meeting and substantial talks during Vice Prime Minister Rosh Nuri al-Shawish’s first visit to Armenia conducted last year. Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that the visit became a turning point in the relations of the two countries: the intergovernmental Armenian-Iraqi commission was formed in a short period of time, Yerevan reopened its embassy in Bagdad, and today the intergovernmental commission is already convening its second session.

The interlocutors concurred that the first and rather efficient meeting had an important impact on the development of the trade and economic relations which is testified to by a steep rise of the turnover. President Serzh Sargsyan expressed hope that the present visit of the Vice Prime Minister of Iraq will also be productive and one year later Armenia and friendly Iraq will register new achievements in their political and economic relations.

Rosh Nuri al-Shawish noted that such optimism is warranted since his delegation comprises multiple Iraqi businessmen and in addition to the session of the intergovernmental commission conducted in Yerevan there also has been held a business forum. It was decided to establish the Armenian-Iraqi Business Council to encourage contacts of the business circles of the two countries and mutual investments.

At the meeting discussed were future works aimed at deepening cooperation in a number of mutually beneficial areas.
