President attended the finals of the Best Sporting Family-2013 competition

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan attended the finals of the annual Best Sporting Family-2013 competition for the Presidential Award held in Tsakhkadzor, at the main stadium of the Olympic complex.

The Best Sporting Family-2013 competition was conducted in three rounds for four age groups in six sport categories. The competition, which is being held for ten years in a row, attracted 2041 families from the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh compared to 1475 families last year. One hundred forty-four families from Armenia and Artsakh which successfully passed all preliminary phases appeared in the finals.

The President of Armenia congratulated the winners of the Best Sporting Family-2013, awarded them with certificates, monetary awards, and souvenirs. Children of 144 families which reached the finals received sport uniforms and souvenirs from the President.

“I congratulate all winners and prize-winners of the competition. I wish that you all eternally stay healthy, strong, and energetic. I certainly congratulate all participants. The mood which I observe here prompts me that Olympic atmosphere is reigning now. As you know, the motto of the Olympics states that it is important not to win but to take part,” President Serzh Sargsyan said and noted with satisfaction the fact that there are thousands families in our country whose members attach great importance to the healthy lifestyle, love to compete and where healthy generation is being raised. According to the President of Armenia, without a strong and supportive family, a person is not able to fully display his or her abilities, which means that the society, which is based on the strong and healthy families, can hardly have a good future.

The President gladly stressed the fact that the number of the participating families is growing by year; it started from 54 and now reached 2041. President Sargsyan noted that the figure should go higher. “We have to have tens of thousands of families and should constantly increase the number allowing the families with handicap members also to participate. It is extremely important because these people too are full members of our society and they should be given the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and bring their participation to this important event.”

President Serzh Sargsyan was handed a commemorative Cup which the organizers of the Tenth the Best Sporting Family-2013 competition for the RA Presidential Award gave him as a token of appreciation.
