The President visited the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory and the Museum of History of Armenia
President Serzh Sargsyan visited today the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory and met with the representatives of the Council and Scientific Council – the highest administrative body of the Conservatory. During the tour of the higher education institution, he familiarized with the works aimed at the partial renovation and acquisition of the necessary furniture which was realized in accordance to the President’s last year instructions through the additional funds allocated from the state budget. With the participants of the meeting, the President of Armenia discussed also pending issues existing at the Conservatory, the development programs and opportunities for their implementation. At the Conservatory, Serzh Sargsyan listened to the performances by the students, who achieved significant results at the international and state musical contents, and responded to the questions raised by the attendees of the meeting.
The President of Armenia thanked the faculty of the Conservatory and the leadership of the institution, who are talking with the unconcealed pride about the accomplishment s of the alumni and students of the Conservatory, for their achievements and important work which has been carried out in our country by this educational institution for decades. “Your mission – development of our national music, truly deserves respect. I have come to pay tribute to you and to those who were working before you and, naturally, to those who will come after you. In order you can properly carry on with your mission, certain conditions are needed. Towards that end, we are trying to create these conditions,” President Serzh Sargsyan said.
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan visited also the Museum of History of Armenia, where he observed the “New Jugha: The Cradle of the Armenian Printing” exhibition which was opened on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Armenian Book Printing. It comprises exceptional objects from the collections of the Museums of the Armenian History and Holy See of Etchmiadzin and Matendaran. On display are also manuscripts from New Jugha created in the XVII century, first books printed in the printing house of New Jugha in 1638-1641, samples of the ancients books printed in Madras, Calcutta, first Armenian periodical Azdarar printed in Madras in 1794, and a collection of the typical spiritual and household items from New Jugha.
The President observed also the “Armenian Carpet Weaving Art in XVII-XIX” also on display at the Museum which represents samples of the classical Armenian carpets from almost every Armenian historical and ethnographic region. The composition of the ancient, ethnographic materials and carpets proves the historical and scientific fact that origins of carpets and carpet manufacturing reach back millennia.
After concluding his visit to the Museum of History of Armenia, President Serzh Sargsyan, according to the tradition, celebrated the New Year by the Julian calendar with the art workers at the National Gallery of Armenia.
