President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the ceremony of handing the international scientific award named after Armenia’s National Hero, Academician Victor Hambardzumian

Today, during the extraordinary plenary session of the RA National Academy of Sciences which took place in the Academy, President Serzh Sargsyan participated at the ceremony of handing the international scientific award named after Armenia’s National Hero, Academician Victor Hambardzumian.

The Chairman of the V. Hambardzumian International Award Commission, President of the RA Academy of Sciences, Academician Radik Martirossian introduced the awardees for 2012 selected by the Commission’s decision – Jaan Einaston and Igor Novikov. Professor Jaan Einason was nominated by the Tartu Observatory for “significant contribution to the discovery of hidden material and cosmic web”, while professor Igor Novikov (Center of Space Astronomy, P. Levedev Institute of Physics, Russia) nominated by the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy at the Vilnius University for “the original formulation of the prediction of observable assertion of the existence of the hot model of the Universe and proposal on the classification of the masses of quasars.” In his remarks, the Chairman of the Commission noted that the Commission received 12 nominations of outstanding scientists and scientific groups from different academies of sciences throughout the world, universities, observatories and Noble Prize winners for the award 2012. The selection was made after examining all presented works and based on the opinion of the independent reviewers.

President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the outstanding scientists who became the awardees and handed them the awards.
