President Serzh Sargsyan received today the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who arrived to Armenia on a working visit.
Welcoming the guest, the President of Armenia said in particular, “In Armenia you are always a welcome visitor. This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and the United States, and I am glad we can state that in these twenty years our relations have been developing, moving upward and today they are on the highest level in their history. Certainly, history of our peoples’ relations is much deeper, and I am glad we can register that our good relations have been promoted also by the relations of our two peoples, by the large Armenian-American community as well as by the ideas of liberty, justice and democracy.
I am also content that our relations have always been based on mutual respect and trust and that we can at any time speak frankly about any issue which interests either party. We highly value the role of the United States in our region.
I would like to once again express gratitude for the assistance extended by the United State to Armenia in the last twenty years. I am glad to see you, welcome to Armenia.
The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, “Mr. President I am honored to be here again on the 20th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. And during the last 20 years the United States has worked closely with Armenia. We highly value our partnership and continue to support the democratic development and increasing prosperity of the Armenian people.
I greatly appreciate all of the time we’ve had to spend together, as I know President Obama does as well. You and I’ve had many conversations and as you say they have been very open, as you would expect between friends. And I know how hard you personally have worked to resolve the regional problems that affect Armenia. So I look forward to continuing our conversation. The United States stands ready to assist you and support you as you continue to exercise great leadership.
And of course I am very glad to see the sun shining. I have been in the Arctic and in the Far North and it’s good for all of the Americans travelling with me to see a beautiful sunny day here in Yerevan.”
