President Serzh Sargsyan conducted working visits to Kotayk and Gegharkunik marzes
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan conducted working visits to Kotayk and Gegharkunik marzes.
In Kotayk, the President of Armenia participated at the ceremony of inauguration of the Marmarik water storage basin and familiarized with the works conducted for the restoration of the basin. According to the specialists, the Marmarik water storage basin, which was in a bad shape, posed great danger for 142 thousand people living on the adjacent territories. The most concerning structure of the water basin complex was posed by the construction tunnel.
The President was informed that after the reconstruction works, the danger to the local population was eliminated. It was also noted that the reconstruction of the basin allows to direct flows of Marmarik river, which during spring snowmelt floods were causing considerable damage. According to those responsible, the conducted works will allow to irrigate extra 1055 hectares of Kotayk marz lands (Meghradzor, Aghavnadzor, Marmarik, Artavaz and Hrazdan communities) with almost 9 million cubic meters of water. The additional amount of self-dripping water (nearly 14 million cubic meters) will be given to the Artashat water canal. The same canal, passing through the cascade of the Sevan hydropower plant will produce annually nearly 21 million kilowatt/hour of power. The filling of the water basin will commence in the spring 2012, in accordance with the adopted timetable.
During his working visit to Kotayk marz, President Serzh Sargsyan was also briefed on the works for the improvement of the Hrazdan town water supply system. It was noted that after the implementation of two investment programs in 2010-2011 in Hrazdan town, the distribution net of the town and Magravan-2 pumping facility were renovated. In the framework of the second program to be implemented in 2012-2016, completed will be the reconstruction works for the remaining part of the distribution net, nearly 35km of the waterlines and the water pipes of the apartment buildings. As a result, the entire town will have a round-the-clock water supply.
In Gegharkunik, Serzh Sargsyan observed the reconstruction works on Ddmashen-Zovaber-Hrazdan segment of the road which are scheduled to be finished in August 2012.
